26 June - Down Day, Laundry, Cubs, Barbecue

26 June
No sightseeing today, so boring post warning :-).

Yesterday (Monday) headed into Petaluma and the "Laundry Depot"  Oh joy!  Doreen did five loads of laundry (many towels, etc), While the machines were spinning we grocery shopped at "Lucky" right next door.  Nice store with good selection and friendly people.

A few days ago we shopped at a Walmart and the checkout lady just laid some of the items up on top of the little carousel where the bags are.  I noticed the bags were very heavy compared to those we have in Iowa.  There are no free bags here.  The heavy plastic ones are $0.10 each and they are reusable.  You bring them back in when you shop and you load your own stuff.  The checkout lady sensed we were "foreigners" and she "comp'ed" us the bags because we did not know.  So, we kept them and put them back in the truck to reuse.  You don't see those disposable plastic bags flying around the countryside here.  Editorial:  Now, they need to fix the the plastic bottle thing.  Dang things floating around in the ditches, lakes and in the ocean all over the place.  What is with the obsession with bottled water anyway?

So, done with laundry and shopping, back to the RV, stowed stuff, lunch, Cubs, barbecue for supper.  Doreen spent quite a bit of time planning our next few stops, routes, sightseeing points of interest, etc.  Northern California and southern Oregon,

Today (Tuesday) we made breakfast outside and cooked up some burgers and bacon for future reheat-in-the-microwave on the road meals.   Then we cleaned up the grille, stowed our outside stuff and made preparations to leave in the morning.

After I finish here we are headed to Santa Rosa CA about 40 minutes north to visit the Charles Schultz Museum (Snoopy and Charlie Brown fame).  We will probably have an authentic Mexican meal up there and then wind our way back to the RV to catch the Cubs-Nats game at 1600 hrs.

Finishing up with a shout-out to all the kids and grand kids at Yogi Bear campground in Caledonia WI.  From the pictures and videos looks like everyone is having a blast, even with Calvin needing chin stitches within minutes of arriving, Drew-meister and his stomach issues and Hailee not feeling well!  Hopefully the adults are enjoying the campfire time.  We miss you all!

  1. Down days are nice. Glad you got a chance to grill out...one of our favorites. Rarely eat a meal inside, Keith - AKA: Grillmeister, loves to be over that hot grill/griddle. He made sure to even get in a morning of the famous French toast like we Griz kids had often growing up! Yogi was great, just wish weather was better, and kids all missed Nana & Gramps (and even the lazy river a bit!!)
