28 campgrounds down! After this one, only two more campgrounds to go! After a great weekend with Michelle's family and several of her friends and their parents at the Yogi Bear Campground, we packed up and about 1023 hrs, drove south and east 7 miles / 19 minutes to the Cliffside Campground at Racine WI. This is without a doubt the shortest travel day we've had on this summer's trip! It is also the latest departure time.
Because it was a very short jaunt, we did not follow the same procedures we have on the others. We did not pour over the route and campground information the night before and review the plan.... No one to blame but myself! If you do the math from above, 1023 hrs departure, 19 minute travel time, that translates to an arrival time of 1042 hrs. Hmmm. The pages I had printed for Cliffside very clearly said check-in time was 1500 hrs. Well, we arrived here and our site was still occupied, but they looked like they were getting ready to leave so we decided to just pull over to the roadside and wait. Soon the camp host lady came walking over and asked if we needed assistance. I said politely, "No, we are just waiting for our site to open up." She said check-in was 1500 hrs, but they would allow 1300 hrs at the absolute earliest! Ok, so it is not even 1100 hrs yet. That means we have over two hours to kill. Arg! So we departed the park and drove south a few miles to Racine and after a bit of driving around decided to stop in a very large and very empty K-Mart/Pick n' Save parking lot.
There was plenty of room for us to park. I tended to Liberty and Doreen went into Pick n' Save and restocked on groceries. About 1245 we headed back to the campground and got right in.
The campground was nearly empty from all the campers this weekend. I had carefully chosen our site to be able to support out length, width with the slides out, and hopefully satellite reception for Directv.
Plenty of space between sites |
We are on an end site, so no neighbors on one side for sure! |
Liberty crashed and burned. Rough life for a dog! |
We will be here for six nights and they we will head for Ft McCoy FamCamp, west of Tomah WI. While we are here we will visit Michelle's several evenings, visit lighthouses, possibly the harley Davidson factory tour and the Great Lakes Naval Base FamCamp. I am planning for pushing hard to get the BLOG up to date... There are fours days I have not done yet. Sorry!
