16 Sep - Parents Weekend at the Yogi Bear Campground

16 Sep
This morning we headed into town from the campground as the grandsons had some activities.  Jon and Joe both bowl and they are very good.  They are in leagues and Joe also bowls with the Middle School team.  Arg, too busy watching and failed to get pictures...

We watched them until Joe had to leave and head to the Middle School for a "color run".  It was a fund-raiser for the Middle School.  Keith stayed with Jon at the bowling alley while Joe and I followed Michelle and Doreen to the school.  The group was gathering, getting registered and putting on their white t-shirts.

Everyone getting ready to start
This brings back memories for me of the literally hundreds of 5K's, 10K's, TAG fun-runs, half marathons I ran over the years and my one full marathon I ran in 2013 with daughter Jennifer and son-in-law James.  I miss those days but fear my joints may not tolerate further ground-pounding that well.  We will see...

Just before the 5K/3K walk-run started the colored packs opened and the participants and anyone within range was showered with colored powder!

And off they go!!
Doreen, Michelle and I waited there and watched and the runners crossed the finish line.  There were no timer chips or timers, but soon they returned.  It looked like everyone was having fun!

I asked how Michelle was going to get Joe home to shower (in her brand new truck!!!) and she brought a beach towel to wrap him up!  As they headed home to clean up, Doreen and I returned to the campground and then headed over to the group camping area where the boys had been tending to the smoker.  As the kids returned they took off playing.  Yogi Bear campground has an endless supply of things for the kids to do, everything from ziplines to swimming pool, goofy golf, jumpy pillow, etc.  At the camp ground they assembled a rope obstacle for the kids.  It is sure fun to see these kids grow up and become young adults.  It just seems like yesterday some were in strollers and baby cribs.
The adults gathered around the campfire, monitoring the smoker and preparing for the dinner meal.  It is very relaxing and fun. As we said before, it is parents weekend so Michelle and Keith's friends had their parents there.  We had a great time talking with them and listening to their stories.  There is also a lot of discussion about camping and RV issues and you usually leave with ideas you can apply to your own RV.

Also each campsite sets up for the Halloween event happening this evening and every Saturday evening this month.  Later the kids (and most adults) change into their costumes and the craziness begins!  At 1800 hrs the kids and adults go campsite to campsite "trick-or-treating".  Each campsite hands out candy to the kids and adult beverages od various shapes and sizes to the adults!!  Jello shots, pudding shots, you get the idea!
Elaborate decorations including blow-up's and a candy/beverage table!

This camp site was giving the adults Blood-ee Mary's!  They look like IV bags and are labeled as such - O-POS, A-NEG, etc!  Very goulish!!
Keith built a "Plinko-for-Drink-o" board.  The adults drop a plinko chip and it travels down through a series of nails and lands at the bottom indicating a 1,2,3 or 4 which is the type of liquor the adult gets.  It is usually off-the-wall flavors of cheap liquor such a watermellon vodka or lemon-mint flavored whiskey.  They get just a small sample so no one gets crazy but there is also a "5" which is "group shot" where the servers and the person who dropped the plinko chip all drink.  Again, it is a very small amount so it does not get out of hand but all in fun.

After the Trick or Treat is over, we ate a fantastic meal!  Oh, man!  Each family brought side dishes so there was tons of food.  Smoked pulled pork, roasted turkey, ham, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, cheeses, crackers, cheese potatoes, salads, sweet corn, and endless desserts.  After over-eating, the "meat coma" set in and Doreen and I took Liberty back to our RV.

Tomorrow we pack it up and move to Cliffside Campground at Racine, just seven miles from here.
