15 May - Stop #3 Oakley KS
Departed McConnell AFB about 0830 hrs after saying goodbye to John Kimball and Jane. We headed north to Salina and then west to Oakley - about 279 miles today arriving just before 1400 hrs.
The drive was OK but the winds here in Kansas are relentless and fuel mileage continues to dip below 10 - arg! Oh well, price of progress! Interesting landmark at one of the rest areas describes the stone fence posts. Once I read this I noticed them everywhere.

Oil wells everywhere! Black gold! Texas Tea! |
 |
Stone fence posts in the fields. |
Oakley is just a one night stand for us as we motor on down to the Peregrine Pines FamCamp at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs CO.
 |
A motel with a dozen RV spots. Full hook-up with laundry facilities, free breakfast etc. OK for one night |
 |
Very plain campgrounds, no trees. |
Bad weather impending. Going to batten down the hatches and get the bug-out bag ready. Next stop, Colorado Springs!
