14 May - Last Day at McConnell Air Force Base

14 May
Happy Mother's Day!  Today we visited the Air Park at the Kansas Air Guard Base.  One unusual site is their B-1B Lancer bomber.  The 184th used to fly the "Bone" and so they have one on display along with other aircraft they have flown.

On the way back to the campgrounds we cruised the BX and then visited the commissary and restocked on food a bit.  After lunch we watched the Cardinals beat the Cubs and then we joined John Kimball and Jane for some drinks, conversation and barbecue.  Doreen and Liberty found a new friend, but the friend was more interested in the local vegetation that the visitors.

We could not leave McConnell without the ceremonial placement of the state decal.  John had the honors of placing our Kansas decal on the map and I gave him one of my retirement coins.
Kansas, check!

Great to reconnect with friends and military comrades!
The wind finally subsided then the mosquitoes came out.  Time to pick up and prepare for departure in the morning.   Next stop, Oakley Kansas for an over-nighter, then on to the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs CO

  1. Neat static displays. Glad you are able to catch up with friends. And fill your map in!
