As explained before, we "pulled chocks" two days earlier than planned and headed to our first destination today. We departed home at 0950 hrs in the rain. It rained most of the way to Offutt Air Force Base, which is south of Council Bluffs IA. We saw a big cell coming on the radar so we pulled off near the Anita IA rest area and we sat there with a parking lot full of truckers until it passed. Even with that, the 155 mile trip only took slightly over three hours.
This camp ground is owned and operated by the Air Force MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation). The reason we camp at the FamCamps whenever available is they are so reasonable priced. As an example, this is a "full hook-up" camp site meaning it has 50 amp electric, water and sewer and we only pay $20 per night. This site is also paved and they are typically very secure. To camp here you either have to be active in the military/DoD or retired. So, we are surrounded by other retirees and we usually run into someone we know! I will post a few pictures tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will see some sights in the area and probably hit the Base Exchange at Offutt. Friday night we have dinner with a friend and Air Force comrade Rusty Rosenbaum who lives not far from here.
That's it for tonight. Great to be traveling again!
