11 July - Tires, Laundry, PX, All Star Game

11 July
Exciting day started with breakfast:
Strawberry Rainier Cherries.  Oh, man are they good!  So sweet!
Headed out taking the RAM pickup to the tire shop.  Weird tire wear on both front tires.  The alignment guy realigned it and said it was off by a mile, more than just a pothole.  He said it was likely misaligned and the last time it was aligned was last summer at the Dodge dealership near Bar Harbor Maine.  Nevertheless, glad to get it corrected.  Because of the mal-alignment both front tires wore very badly, especially the left front.  So, new tire on the left front.  Moved the new spare to the right front.  Moved the right front to the spare.  The vibration is gone.  The pulling to the right is gone.  Hopefully the bad tire wear is gone. To celebrate, the "big ol' RAM" got a bath at the Ft Lewis car wash.  Drives like a new one, might as well look like a new one!  Kudo's to S&S Tire in Parkland WA.  Over the top customer service.  Treated me like royalty.

While I was at the tire shop Doreen did a few loads of laundry.  When I returned we had lunch and then headed into Ft Lewis (5 minute drive) and visited the PX and Doreen got a hair cut, but not "high and tight" (military joke).  She picked up a flyer about Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band performing here Saturday night. Gary Sinise is a huge supporter of the military.  Looking forward to that for sure!!

We shopped a bit and then returned to the RV Park and grilled supper before the All Star Game on TV.

Doreen met the camp host on one of the dog walks.  He is a retired military firefighter who was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, MD in 2001, and responded to the 9/11 tragedy from there.  Since retiring he took on a camp host job here at Ft Lewis.  One of two camp hosts that alternate duties, to give each other a break.

Watched the MLB All Star game tonight, relaxed , and am now updating the blog.

Tomorrow we head to Bremerton WA to meet up with Mary Simon, Doreen's cousin, and have lunch.  My brother-in-law Jim Nantz and my sister Karen were stationed here for a while during Vietnam.  I flew here in (1969?) and drove back with Karen to Iowa.  Jim headed out to sea for his last tour of duty and then returned to Iowa.

Mahalo!

  1. I'm sure the camp host could tell some stories from that tragic day! I'd like be to try some of those cherries! Had some from the place Jen went to! Delish!
